Welcome to our family-run business, which was established in 1978 and is still going strong today. The owner of the company, Mr Paul Atkinson, has a hands-on approach and is fully involved in every aspect of the running of the company. We specialise in repairing and rebuilding gearboxes in both manual and automatic vehicles as well as fitting clutches and flywheels.
We are happy to fit a new clutch and/or flywheel at the same time as rebuilding your gearbox to save you money on the labour/fitting fees. In addition, we offer gearbox servicing, including an oil and filter/pan change. Whatever your needs, let our team at The Gearbox Specialists assist you.

Maintaining your Gearbox
A fully functioning gearbox is integral to keeping your vehicle running safely and ensuring it is performing at its best. That’s exactly why we carry out gearbox servicing and repairs at The Gearbox Specialists. Depending on your gearbox type, gearbox servicing will be required at different times. We are happy to answer any queries you may have concerning your gearbox and/or clutch, so please do not hesitate to contact us.
Diagnostic Testing Gearboxes (Manual and Auto)
We can carry out full gearbox diagnostics testing on both automatic and manual vehicles.
Automatic testing costs £79.95 plus VAT and we require your vehicle for half a day.
Gearbox diagnostic testing on a manual vehicle is free of charge and can be carried out whilst you sit and wait (Approximately 10 minutes subject to a technician being free.)

We offer a full warranty on all our work for up to 12000 miles or a period 12 months, whichever comes soonest.
Experts in Powershifts
We can assist with both the DCT250 (dry clutch) and DCT450 (wet clutch) gearboxes most commonly found within automatic Fords and some Volvos. We strip and rebuild them, replacing the dual-clutch with new and replacing the Valve body with reconditioned (if required), reprogramming them, setting oil levels and carrying out a road test. All rebuilds are done on-site and take 2/3 working days, on average
